Combating driver shortages

EU countries will be able to allow young people with professional driver training to drive trucks from the age of 17 if they are accompanied by an experienced colleague. It is up to the Member States to decide whether to allow accompanied truck driving. International journeys will only be possible for 17-year-olds in countries that allow accompanied driving.
The reform will lower the general age for truck drivers in all EU countries from 21 to 18. The prerequisite is completion of professional driver training (CPC – Certificate of Professional Competence). Member states already had the option of allowing 18-year-olds with the appropriate training to drive trucks.
The shortage of skilled workers is a serious problem for the transport and logistics industry. How can the recruitment of professional drivers from abroad be successful? What support do transport and logistics companies need for this? These issues will be the focus of a panel discussion. (rok)
