The aorta for freight transport

The Brenner route is one of the most important freight corridors in Europe, connecting the Mediterranean with key markets north of the Alps. It plays a vital role in both freight and passenger transport across the region. However, growing pressure on the corridor is causing concern: extensive renovation work on the Brenner and Inntal motorways, including the Lueg Bridge in Tyrol, as well as planned upgrades on the Munich–Salzburg railway axis and delays in the completion of the Brenner Base Tunnel are expected to reduce capacity significantly. A specialist forum will explore the consequences for transalpine freight transport to and from Italy. Experts will discuss how infrastructure planning, construction site coordination and political decisions affect the logistics sector and what action is urgently needed. (rok)
