In der militärischen Logistik begann 1999 eine Umorientierung hin zu Kooperationen mit der Wirtschaft. Diese sollen mit der „Projektskizze Logistik“ weiter intensiviert werden.

Seit April 2005 wird an der „Projektskizze Logistik“ gearbeitet. Sie soll die Logistik der Bundeswehr deutlich verbessern und Kosten senken. Angestrebtes Ziel ist, zivile Bezugswerte zu erreichen. Lieferzeiten und Termintreue sind dafür nach Servicestandards zu definieren und in Servicevereinbarungen zu regeln. Langsamdreher werden von Schnelldrehern unterschieden. Darüber hinaus wird eine Umstellung zahlreicher Lieferanten auf Direktbelieferung angestrebt. Ziel ist auch, die Wirtschaftlichkeit des logistischen Systems durch Skaleneffekte und Kontinuierliche Verbesserungsprozesse (KVP) zu erhöhen.
